Born in Israel, Yosi Messiah migrated to Australia in 1987, where he used his learned craft of jewellery making to create designs for his own store in Darlinghurst, Sydney. His desire to further his creative ability in drawing and painting, led him to study painting at Charlie Sheard's School of Art and drawing at Julian Ashton's. Since 1903, Yosi has been creating a successful reputation with his abstract grid paintings and has had several exhibitions displaying this style. Figurative work is his most recent creative direction and has been inspired by pop culture and play station imagery. His work is characterised by his love of intricate fine detail and a bold and exuberant colour palette taken from his experience as an abstract artist. Yosi has been a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize, the Mosman Art Prize and a semi-finalist for the Moran National Art Prize. At Art Sydney one of his paintings was bought by the Australian Olympic swimmer, Ian Thorpe.
