George Raftapoulos

George Raftopoulos was born in Sydney in 1972, the son of Greek parents. He has visited Greece twice for extended stays to absorb his family's cultural foundations in Corfu. In 1992-4, he studied at the University of Western Sydney and qualified with a Bachelor of Arts ( Visual Art ). He has exhibited in Australia, France and Hong Kong, and is represented in private and public collections in Australia and U.S.A.

Line plays a key role in his current painting, and his line is both economical and swift. It is firm and for a couple of years has turned on a single colour, which sets the temper of the painting. His paintings often incorporate numerals, usually dual digits. George speaks of his paintings as " mapping the memory " which refers to his paintings incorporating fragments witnessed and sensations he has experienced.
