David Bromley
David Bromley was born in Sheffield, England in 1960, and immigrated to Australia with his family in 1964. Bromley became recognised as an artist of talent in the mid to late 1980's. In the early stages of his career, he held solo exhibitions in Sydney and Adelaide. His paintings are represented in state and regional galleries, including being a finalist in the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1999, 2001 and 2004.
In his practice, he has developed themes for two distinct types of painting. Firstly the children's series where works are based on children, impressions of the joy and innocence of childhood. In the portrait series, Bromley explores the female form with a graphic intention reminiscent of Warhol's Pop Art from the 1960's. This can be seen in the layering of high key primary colours, graphic brushwork and gold and silver leaf.
In the past five years, his work has achieved a global identity with major exhibitions held throughout Australia, Asia, Europe and the USA.
Works by David Bromley are represented in collections in Australia, including, Artbank, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.
