David Boyd
David Boyd was born in Melbourne in 1924, youngest son of artist Merric Boyd. He studied pottery and painting within the family circle.
From 1944 - 6, he studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and the National Gallery School. With his brother Guy he founded the Martin Boyd Pottery in Sydney. David and his wife Hermia became well-known as leading Australian potters.
He began his career as a painter in 1957 with a series of symbolic paintings on Australian explorers. Since then he has painted several major series of works, including the Trial series, the Wanderer and Exile series. In the 60's and 70's he spent time living in London and then the South of France.
He is represented in the Australian National Gallery, Canberra, all state and many regional galleries in Australia, the Metz Collection, USA, the Power Collection, Sydney and many international galleries and private collections in Australia and overseas.
