Charles Blackman
Charles Blackman was born in Sydney in 1928. He studied at the East Sydney Technical College, 1943 - 46. His first official recognition was being awarded the Rowney prize for drawing in Melbourne in 1959. By 1977 his status among Australian contemporary artists was recognised with an OBE being conferred on him
"for services to art". In 1993 the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne staged the first major retrospective of his work " Schoolgirls and Angels " This exhibition toured to Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
Blackman's work is held by the Australian National Gallery in Canberra, all Australian State and many provincial galleries, as well as by corporate and private collections in Australia, the U.K. and U.S.A.
