Bruce Earles
Melbourne artist Bruce Earles was born in 1953. After receiving his Graduate Diploma in Art Education at Monash University in 1979, Earles pursued his formal art studies at the University of Western Sydney, and was awarded a Master of Arts ( Honours ) in 1998 and a Doctorate in Creative Arts in 2002.
In 1982 Earles became a member of the newly-formed " Roar " group. These raw and rebellious artists created an art movement with their bold style. Works by the " Roar " group are still highly sought after by collectors and curators today.
Embracing the joy of life , Earles evokes a playful vision of the urban environment where landscape and culture mingle and merge. The brilliant hues of his more recent paintings explore the interplay between paint and canvas.
In 2000 Earles was awarded the prestigious New York Pollock Krasner Foundation Award for Art, and in 2001 was the recipient of a Research Grant from the University of Western Sydney.
Since 1983, Earles has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and internationally in New York, Washington, Seattle, Tokyo, Bejing and Shanghai.
