Sylvia Chait
Sylvia is an internationally aclaimed sculptress. Her work is not bound by her immediate environement. Her organic sculptures explore universal themes. Some of her work relates to the female form extracting maternal qualities of love, tenderness and warmth. Other works are purely abstact. These forms and shapes are often rounded and pierced with holes. She conveys a feeling of sensual delight through her rhythmatic contours and flowing forms and shapes. The works are polished to achieve a smooth patina or highly polished surface. Patina bronze is a favoured finish.
She first came to prominence in the art world in Johannesburg, South Africa and since emigrating to Santa Monica, Los Angeles in USA in 1986 her reputation has grown and grown.
In 2008 she was honoured to be one of the 30 artists inducted into the inaugural Artexpo Hall of Fame in New York.
Her sculptures can be found in numerous private and public collections and Art Galleries throughout the United States, England, Australia, South Africa, Canada and Europe
